Halloween: Harmless fun or Playing with the devil?

Lette's Chat

Re-posted from October 2011

Tis the season once again for Halloween. I’ve decided to dedicate the next few blogs to this rather unusual celebration that sparks a lot of passion between folks who sit on opposite sides of the fence. Halloween or All Hallows Eve is a joyous time for many Americans to remember and honor their dead, while others refuse to partake in what they perceive to be demonic activities on a demonic holiday while others simply like to dress up in kooky costumes and get free candy.

What’s it all about? Is it harmless fun? A revered celebration? Or something harmful, ungodly and dangerous?

You be the judge! Lette’s Chat about it…

A little history first…

I’m not exactly sure when this celebration, turned into a major a holiday, but you can barely get into the front door of some places because of all the “spooky” Halloween…

The Anatomy of Spells

Magick Spells
Magick Spells
By Jeanine DeOya

What is a magick Spell? Good question. The oldest English meaning of the word spell I could find stated that it came from the Old High Germanic word – spellōn meaning communication of thought by words; talk, conversation, discourse, to foretell,  to mean, or to promise. This is how the phrase “Sit for a spell” came into being when someone invited a person to visit them. It meant sit for a talk or conversation.  When a Witch casts spells s/he is having a conversation with the Universe. S/he is communicating with the great Divine power much like many do when praying. There are some differences between “Prayers” and “Spells”. A Prayer asks Deity. Spells state their will to Deity. A Prayer is hope. A Spell is conviction.  A Prayer is folded hands and bowed heads. A Spell is open hands, raised heads with unique jesters. Neither should be considered right or wrong, they are merely matters of preferences.

The totally structure of a spell is complex yet simple. In doing a spell the practitioner considers herself or himself a part of the interworkings of the Great Universe.  The complexity is that all human-beings are spirits assigned to the realm or plane we call Earth. The Earth is one of innumerable planes or cogs connected to the Universal Engine we call “The All”. Every human-being is connected to The All, and is assigned our position for a “Purpose” very much like the skin cells and organs in our bodies have purpose. Human-beings main function in the Universal engine is like neurons shooting messages to the Universal-All. They do this in conscious and unconscious states for the purpose of feeding the Universe knowledge. Some call this storage of information in the ethereal the “Akashic  Records”, or the “Great Cosmic Library” of information. Information is constantly being sent to the Universe by human-beings like electrical currents when they are dreaming, learning, observing, evaluating, finding, collecting, discovering, growing and even casting spells. At the same time information is being sent back to human-beings too. We access that information by mediating, Continue reading

Why African Americans are Coming back to the Natural Ways?

Goddess Gathering

Goddess Gathering

I find it amazing that many people are coming back to the natural ways, and particularly African-Americans. I myself was called many many years ago as a child. But, it is as though that the Goddess has called everyone at once. Although, in history, there has always been African-American people who had the spiritual calling of the ATR’s, Hoodoo and Shamanism the number of people who have increased in the Metaphysical following is tremendous. Why now have people turned to the Earth Based Consciousness?

There are many possibilities. One possibility is that many have found, with the Self Awareness Movement, that the traditional Western religions do not address their need for ethnic pride and lineage. With today’s need to acknowledge natural hair, lost ancestors and lost heritage there is also a need to walk the paths that the ancestors walk and to feel the same spiritual energy that they experienced.

Another reason may be that African-American have begun to awaken to the necessity to live a more healthy mind, body and spirit. This does not only include spiritual pursuits but also in the pursuit of eating healthy, having a clean and natural environment, and connecting with Self for good mental health. Going back to the natural ways seems the most simplistic, cost-effective and fulfilling path to this. The religions of the Earth and the Mother and the Lord and Lady teaches the necessity to respect all of Nature, Big Mama, and Creation itself.

The third reason may be that African-Americans, just as many others, have heard about, and have begun to understand the true law of attraction, the power of positive thinking, and the belief that we all have the power to make our own destiny without the need for other traditional religions and faiths.

The final possibility is that women are figuring out that they can seek the goddess within, and African-American men can choose their own god within no matter what god that is.

Mama Ma’at, who presides over what is Fair and True will always tip the scale to find balance. It seems African-Americans are following her course.
